Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the difference in recreational and competitive dance?

Recreational
Students who are taking only one class a week in any dance discipline. Students will study a tap/jazz combination class
that lasts for 45 minutes each week. Performing is limited to the year-end show.

Competitive
Students taking a minimum of two classes a week. Competitions will range from 1-3 per year and will be within 180 miles.
Competitive students may be asked to perform at community events, and will perform in the year-end show.

2. What do you offer for recreational dancers?
Recreational combination classes include the elements of ballet, tap and jazz. Dancers will learn how their bodies move,
specific dance steps and large motor and coordination skills. They will learn to use their imaginations in class as well as
learn fun songs (in some classes) and choreography.

At the end of the dance season, dancers will participate in the annual recital where they will dance on stage in costumes
for their families and friends.

3. How long does a session last?
Dance classes will begin on Monday, August 11th. Recital will be held at Petal Performing Arts Center on April 25th

4. If I'm not sure my child is going to like dance, do I still need shoes?
Yes, it is required that they at least have ballet shoes. Children will not get the full experience of a dance class without
the proper equipment. It would be like sending them to soccer practice without shin guards and cleats.

5. What do I need for dance class?
Leotard: A basic leotard in any color or design is acceptable. Attached skirts are fine as long as they are short and fall
about mid-thigh. Ornate costumes are not allowed as this is distracting to the dancer and makes it difficult for the
instructor to see body placement.

Tights or thin Socks - Blisters can sometimes be a problem with tap shoes, so please send your dancer in dance tights or
thin bobby socks.

Shoes: Pink ballet shoes and black tap shoes are required for dance class. Isotoner slippers are not acceptable.

Tap Shoes: Recreational dancers may wear black patent leather (Please use tap ties) or recommended "Mary Jane Velcro
Strap Tap Shoe" made by Capezio.

6. How much is this going to cost?
On Your Toes has a $25 registration fee. Monthly tuition $40.00 for a 45 minute class, $50.00 for a one hour class, and
$60.00 for any two classes a week (competitors $10.00 monthly for each additional team class) Family Discount $5.00
deduction for your second child. $15.00 deduction for your third child.

Late Fees - Late fees will be enforced unless payment arrangements are previously made. Payments are due on the first
of each month, and a $10.00 late fee will be applied on the 15th of each month.

Hold Payment - The studio will gladly hold a check for a maximum of 14 days. You must place payment in an envelope
with "HOLD PAYMENT" on the front of the envelope with the cleared date.

Returned Checks - There will be a $30.00 fee on all returned checks.

7. How are recreational dancers placed in a class?
Most dancers are placed in a class with peers their same age. However, all dancers develop and advance at different
times and in various ways. When new dancers join On Your Toes, they typically begin with their age group and move to
the appropriate class as they progress.

8. How much are costumes and performance fees?
Our recital fees include the cost of all costumes, auditorium rental for dress rehearsal and recital, unlimited tickets per
family, all props, scenery and backdrop, all staff for dress rehearsal and recital including teachers, lighting and sound
crew, and janitorial staff. Total $150.00 per dancer. Please label your check PERFORMANCE FEES - please no combined
payments as these will be in a different account.

September 1 $50.00
October 1 $50.00
November 1 $50.00

9. What happens if my dancer decides dance isn't for him/her?
No problem! I certainly understand that every child looks for the creative outlet that best suits them.

Since tuition is paid on a monthly basis, there are no "contracts" to be signed. However, there are no refunds once a
month of tuition has been paid.

If your dancer chooses not to return, we just ask that you e mail
Jennifer@onyourtoesstudio.com, to let me know.

10. Do we stay in the room with the dancers? How and when do we get to watch?
Recreational classes may be viewed at any time. I do ask parents of 4 year olds and under to begin on the floor behind
your dancer and gradually make your way upstairs to the observation room as the year progresses.

Competition classes are not available for viewing on a weekly basis, but parents will be advised on selected observation
days.

11. What classes are offered?

Recreational Dance - Tap and Jazz Combination classes 45 minutes

Pom Squad - This is a class for dancers ages 4-7 who will focus on pom squad choreography. The class will include
stretching, cheer motions, dance terms, Jumps, Tumbling, beginning stunts. This is on the same competitive level as an all
Star Petite squad. If you are enrolled in a recreational dance class, the additional fee is only $20.00 monthly. The
students will compete at dance competitions in the area of pom or open. The cheerleading uniform will be ordered from a
dance company around the price of $50.00 - Bows and poms will be the only other expenses. White Tennis Shoes and
White Socks will be purchased on your own, and competition fees (From 1-2 competitions) will range from $25.00 - $30.00
each. The dancers will also participate in community performances, and I am hoping to book a Petal High School Basketball
Game.

Competition Dance - Dancers are required to attend dance camp from July 14- 18th for placement. Minimum of 2
classes each week - $60.00 - 2-3 competitions per year.
